Teaching has great influence. But what are we influencing people with? As Christians, we want to teach from a Biblical worldview, no matter the subject or audience - but what does that look like? And how do we set up a learning environment that helps everyone to grow and develop? These are some of the topics we will explore. We are called to make disciples of all nations and all ages. In order to do so, we need to know what to teach them and how to teach them.
In this course, you will learn communication and teaching skills that will help you to disciple more effectively and gain an understanding of God's view of education and training. Whether you are new to this area or have been training people for years, this course offers fresh insight and inspiration to impact the world through education.
The FIE will equip you to be a teacher who disciples others. What you learn can be applied in a school classroom, church, children or youth ministry, homeschool or any other setting that involves training and equipping others. If you are already a trained teacher, this course will provide a sound Biblical perspective that will enlarge your capacity as a Christian educator. If you have no previous training, the course will help you lay a foundation for future training and ministry in the area of education.
In the beginning, God created. We are made in His image to co-create with Him. In this course, we discover the importance of creativity in all educational settings. We explore how each person is made uniquely and how we can value each individual in the learning process. We learn how to create a healthy learning environment through recognising different learning styles and giving everyone a chance to contribute.
Lecture topics include: Biblical philosophy of education, child development, serving those with special needs, the role of education in community development, creating a God-centred curriculum, educational wounding and more. Our aim is to place God in the centre of the education process, and let the Bible be the foundation for what and how we teach, no matter the subject or audience.
On outreach you and your team will put into practice your newfound understanding of God’s ways in education in the nations. You will come alongside existing schools and ministries to strengthen and equip. You will serve in a variety of settings, such as government and private schools, churches, marketplaces and people's homes. There will be many opportunities to apply what you have learned during lecture phase.
You will have the opportunity to encourage teachers and inspire them through teacher training seminars and working alongside them in local schools. You will also teach them about entering into a relationship with God – the most transformational aspect of learning! Teaching in local schools and churches offers you opportunities to refine your skills by creating, modifying and using a curriculum to fit the gifts of those you are teaching in a cross-cultural setting. In doing so, not only will you be able to equip and strengthen others, you will also gain valuable experience that readies you for future impact through education.
