There’s always a lot happening at YWAM Perth! Besides our ongoing ministry and training programs, we host events, seminars, camps, short-term missions trips and more. Most of these carry no prerequisite training and are open to the public, certain ages, or cohort and career groups. There are many opportunities to be a part of what God is doing — to be inspired, to be equipped, to serve.
January school holiday camp and outreach for high schoolers
Summer Camp takes place every year in the first week of January. It’s designed as an opportunity for year 7 - 12 students to experience the joy and fun of doing life with God and go deeper in relationship with Him. We also seek to equip youth to GO and share the love of Jesus to others who don’t yet know Him.
The first part of Summer Camp runs from January 2 - 6, 2023 and is known for its team building games and fun community atmosphere. Some highlights are water fights, kicking back with friends by the pool, worship sessions and times of input and seeing God move as we share Him through serving those in our city.
For anyone who completes first part of Summer Camp, there is an optional two week outreach trip straight afterwards. This will be January 9 - 20, 2023. We will have a lot of fun partnering with local churches, doing prayer, worship and evangelism!
Discipling nations through English teaching
English teaching can open doors to the nations! Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages trains you to teach English as a second language. TESOL also offers you high quality, practical training which opens doors for all kinds of future opportunities. You will learn to teach from a Biblical worldview and are equipped to develop language teaching skills.
During this seminar we examine topics relevant to English teaching for a Christian mission context. Topics include: second language acquisition, syllabus design, pioneering new ministry, classroom leadership, teaching macroskills and methodologies and more. You will learn how to create your own teaching aids for a variety of situations. As teachers in a missions context it is also vital that you develop godly teaching characteristics.
During the seminar you will immediately apply what you’re learning. The seminar includes practicum components designed to give you and other TESOL participants hands-on experience in a real language classroom. You will have the opportunity to teach classes, with evaluations given by both peers and TESOL instructors. During your practicum you have the chance to reach out to people, as you teach and put into practice what you’ve learned. TESOL training opens doors to serve and influence in nations all around the world.
