October DTS (Compassion Stream)

Starts Every: October

NOTE: This stream runs as part of the October DTS 2023, together with Sports and Music streams. You will have lectures with all streams combined, and then split up for individual workshop times in each area of interest.

Jesus looked at the crowds and had compassion for them (Matthew 15:32). He healed, helped, served and loved. As we pursue Him together, the October DTS's Compassion Stream aims to go deep in understanding His compassion, and then share Him in word and in action with those who are vulnerable and hurting.

Discipleship Training School starts out with 12 weeks of pursuing God together, tackling topics like worship, prayer, God’s fatherheart and taking the gospel public. Our integrated approach to discipleship means learning and growth happen in the classroom, in the streets, in small group discussion, through hands-on serving and more. And it’s all in the context of our international missions community, alongside of people from all over the world, committed to God and His purposes.

Knowing genuine relationship with God isn’t just for us, though! God wants to bring His hope and healing to a hurting world. And He wants to do it through us!

We long to see communities and individuals realise their full, God-given potential. Despite injustice and brokenness, no situation is beyond His hope. With this as our heartbeat, the second half of the October DTS is where we take what we’ve learned to those in need in the nations. We go to slums, to children at risk, the homeless, the abandoned - the lost. Whether in an orphanage, a prison, a school, a refugee camp or a needy community - we go to those in need, bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ, His healing, His miracles and His love.

Afterwards, we’ll return to Perth together, to share the incredible things God has done and praise Him for the change in our lives and in those He sent us to.

Evangelism and This Generation

While we were in a community on the edge of a major city in India, the DTS team that I was with was able to provide training in water filtration. Before going on outreach we were shown how to make Biosand water filters that used materials available to the local community. They are really easy to make and not overly technical. One of the other great things is that while we were helping with making them, we got to share the Gospel openly in a place that rarely, if ever, had heard it before. During our time out in the community, we got to go to other places around and teach the water filter in five or six locations. Six months later I was able to hear a report back from the local contact that we worked with. He said that families were coming together to get the necessary supplies to make filters, and the people we helped trained were now making them for the community - already making more than 100. He also said that he had been able to share it with local government and that they got behind the easy and simple way to provide clean water to their people and they wanted to build 1,000 more by the end of that year. It was great to see the practical and spiritual working together.
